Community Empowerment: I Adore I Enjoy I Love Maths

Transformation by definition is the act or process of changing completely. Transformation can be done to change anything from states of matter to daily habits. Transforming people into a better version of themselves does not only need great teachers, advisors and counsellors but also the will to change from the people in question. It requires great effort to transform and this is especially true when we are looking to transform the youth. 

In 2013, with support from the Albukhary International University, the Magic Maths Organisation conducted a program for community empowerment called ‘I Love Maths’. The aim of the program is to teach Magic Maths formulae that could reignite their interest in mathematics to 50 lower secondary students.

A total of 59 students attended the program that was conducted in the Albukhary International University, Alor Setar, Kedah on the 24th and 25th of October 2013. For both days, the event started at 2:30 PM and ended at around 6:00 PM. Students were exposed to new formulae each day and answered tests to monitor their improvement. By the end of the successful event, the participants were successfully taught 7 Magic Maths formulae which were(in order):

  4. Genius Percentage
  5. Genius Division 9
  6. Genius Bar Numbers
  7. Genius Subtractions

The Outcome

Before the program, 77% of the students had Math-Phobia. 37 of them hate mathematics and 11 students may lose interest in mathematics as a subject. 

After the program, from 77% of math-phobias, 87% of them were able to solve and start to like mathematics. In addition to that, 32 students has transformed to loving mathematics. By the end, 37 Maths Genius were created thanks to this program.
