Guru Genius, Pendidikan Cemerlang!

Based on a study on the development of Mathematics in Malaysian Tamil schools(SJKT) in 2016, it was found that approximately 70% of students face difficulties in understanding the subject of Mathematics, especially the HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) questions since it was introduced recently. This is because HOTS is triggered through non – routine problems, unclear problems or dilemmas aimed at producing intelligent, creative and innovative human capital to meet the challenges of the 21st century so that the country can compete on the world stage. In solving HOTS questions, students need critical, creative, logical, reflective and meta-cognitive thinking skills.

In relation to that, SJK (T) teachers need to be strengthened with highly innovative techniques and skills as well as encourage “out of the box” thinking in reasoning and reflection. The following are among the main objectives of the program to strengthen the professionalism of subject teachers:-
Participants enggaging in discussion
  1. Train teachers with various problem-solving strategies.

  2. To expose teachers to simple and unique HOTS questions and solution strategies.

  3. Empowering teachers with mathematical magic thinking tools that stimulate ‘non-conventional’ and “out of the box” thinking.

  4. Reveal rapid calculation methods with new and different formulas based on the understanding of “patterns”.

  5. Develop questioning skills so that teachers can provide a variety of their questioning techniques while creating an environment conducive to high level thinking.

  6. Build reasoning skills and abilities, questioning methods, inquiry and problem solving techniques easily and quickly.

  7. Empower teachers with project-based teaching and activities.

  8. Inspire teachers to be passionate about producing excellent talents for the future that will have creative, critical and innovative thinking.
